The Angulo Stand Up Paddleboard Road Show and Review pulled into the Del Mar Fairgrounds

early Saturday morning, ready to meet and greet the crowds of stand up paddle surfers who wanted to get the first look at the 2009 surf craft on display by Angulo and all the other shapers who were there for the weekend. From the opening hour Saturday, to the close of the event on Sunday afternoon, literally hundreds and hundreds of people got a good look at the future of stand up paddle surfing and paddle boards.
It seemed like Ed, Gary and Andy talked to most of those folks, many of whom had not tried

stand up paddleboarding yet, but were really curious, and wanted to know all about this emerging (old school) new sport that is here to stay. But the best part was spreading the enthusiasm of stand up paddling, and Angulo stand up paddleboards. And that was best done by arranging to meet people to demo the boards. Those meetings were set up for early Sunday morning for a paddle and surf at Cardiff Reef, home of stand up paddleboarding in San Diego County.
Another fun aspect of the Expo was enjoying the conversations Ed had with so many of his old

friends in the surfboard industry that he's known and surfed with for many, many years. What a classic treat it was to hear Ed, Steve Sales and Steve Walden talk about the "old" days back in Hawaii when they routinely charged (and got thrashed sometimes) at Sunset, and all the famous North Shore spots. Ward Coffey from Santa Cruz, and Dave Daum stopped by several times to talk story, and Ed finally got his copy of Greg Noll's book autographed by the man himself.
A lot of wind surfers stopped by and commented about how much they appreciated the new mast tracks that Ed has installed in all the 2009 models. This is an element of the sport that people who focus only on surfing haven't yet discovered. It's just another

element of pure FUN that adds to the total versatility of stand up paddleboarding and paddle surfing.
After the show ended Sunday afternoon we all agreed that talking with hundreds of interested people and sharing the SUP enthusiasm was truly satisfying, but we were really looking forward to our next stop before heading home. We had a bunch of demos to do in a super secret surf spot north of Santa Barbara.
Think California circa 1948 on a warm, sunny day with light offshore winds and a half dozen

friends and soon to be friends paddling through clear, cold water with visibility up to 25 feet, and into a sweet little waist high reef break, breaking as clean as it gets. OK, the surf could have been bigger, but on SUPs you always get waves!
As usual, people couldn't keep their hands off the new Angulo's, and

we off-loaded and prepped four new boards. This pretty much emptied the trailer, and put a warm and fuzzy cap on a very successful road trip and show.
Over half of the shipment of boards received just a couple weeks ago are now gone! If you're looking for an incredible stand up paddleboard, do yourself a favor and take a close look at Angulo. You won't be disappointed. If you have to, take a trip to Santa Cruz, or Maui,
contact Ed or Andy and demo one of the new boards. There is a board guaranteed to fit your need!
